In the first dining room building, at the “pioneers yard”, a museum of the history of Degania was established: The Museum of Degania – Mother of the Kibbutzim”.
The museum presents the beginnings of Degania, from the “Hadera Commune” to Umm Juni, up to the permanent site and the decision on the name “Degania”.
The objective of the museum is to perpetuate the memory of the Degania pioneers, who were the first group to realize the ideal of communal settlement in the country. To show how a small group of people attempted, with limited resources, to take upon itself the human adventure of creating a new society based on equality and communality, a life of labor and creation and full mutual responsibility. The work and achievements of the pioneers are reflected in the photographs, documents, letters, maps, models, inions and different exhibits.
Included are explanations of the idealistic foundations of life in the collective as well as the people who acted, lived and shaped its development , such as: Ruppin, Bussel, Gordon, Trumpeldor and Rachel the Poetess.

The exhibit program

In the first room - “beginning”:
The Umm Juni period and the construction of the first buildings at the permanent site.
Today – “pioneers yard”.
The middle room – the farm development:
The various branches and the transition to a mixed economy. Introduction of domestic branches as a solution for the work of women.
The third room – the development of the collective:
social life, holidays and festivities; The water works and industry; defence and security: the battle for Degania. Additional settlement groups, training groups and “nucleii”.
Degania today: the settlement and the population; institutions, children and youth; agricultural branches.
The fourth room is a memorial room for those who fell in Israel’s wars.
